Exhibition with the artist group Solastalgia, consisting of Sidsel Bonde, Ann Edvartsen Hay, Åsne Eldøy, Christine Hansen, Skade Henriksen & Andrea Grundt Johns. In their practice, the artists visit areas characterized by mineral extraction and other forms of human intervention. The exhibition Solastalgia 4.0: Forsøksfelt (Solastalgia 4.0: Experimental field) at Terminal B takes a closer look at the human-touched landscapes in Sør-Varanger and Eastern Finnmark through material processing, photography, text, video and installations. The concept of Solastalgia was developed by the philosopher Glenn Albrecht. He describes it as “the homesickness we feel while still at home”, the pain and longing we feel as we realize the world immediately around us is changing.
Hansen showed the video The Queen Crab a story about the king crab, told by a female species. The work is based on ongoing discussions about crab quotas in Finnmark, as reported in local newspapers. The artist noted that the king crab is often discussed in two ways: either as an expensive and sought-after delicacy, or as an invasive species harming marine fauna in northern waters. The destruction caused by the crabs has even been compared to the environmental damage from mine waste dumping in the fjords.
The film seeks to present a different perspective on the crab, based on research conducted by the artist. In the poetic narrative of the piece, we learn, among other things, how the female crab perceives the world, how important the male crab is when she molts, and what kind of relationship she has with the sea.
