On the Road. Reflections on the Aspect of Travel in Norsk Landskap 1987

This article discusses the aspect of travel in the collaboration project, Norsk Landskap 1987, by the photographers Johan Sandborg, Siggen Stinessen, Per Berntsen and Jens Hauge. The male adventurer who travels the world and possesses the land is a well-known figure in Western culture. Many artists seem to preserve this worn-out trope of masculinity and nature. I will argue that Norsk Landskap 1987, to a lesser degree, plays on this rhetoric. The photographers’ undertaking had more of a social component, however, similar to that of touring with a band.
